What is laser hair removal?
It is the process of removing hair through exposure to pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicle preventing hair regrowth. This method of hair removal has been around for about 20 years before it became commercially available in 1996.
How does laser hair removal work?
Diode Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure that makes use of a concentrated laser light beam to remove unwanted hair.
During the treatment, a laser emits concentrated light that is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair. The light energy converts to heat, which then damages the tube-shaped sacs in the hair follicles skin that produce hair.
This damage delays and inhibits future hair growth.
The average person needs about 8 – 12 laser hair removal treatments in my experience depending on the technology and laser used. Laser hair removal is most effective for people with light skin and dark hair as the absorption of the laser light is at its optimum.
Is laser hair removal painful?
With the correct device, laser hair removal should be completely pain-free, at least my experience was. There are different lasers in the market, so when it comes to the sensation or pain-scale, I cannot say for sure. I know some cheaper options either don’t work or have been uncomfortable experiences for some.
Again, does laser hair removal hurt?
What we do know is that for most people laser hair removal does not hurt and at the skin clinic / salon I visited, I only felt a warming sensation as the laser moved across my skin, in fact I kind of found it soothing.
